Vicor Establishes Relationship With Mt. Sinai Medical Center
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA — December 4, 2002 — VICOR TECHNOLOGIES, INC. announces that they have established an ongoing relationship with Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.
The Company has signed an agreement whereby it will perform in-vivo studies at this prestigious facility under the direction of Anthony Adams, M.D. The first such study will involve additional work in the area of urea recycling in rats. The Company will test three of its Vicor Proprietary Fractions (“VPF”) during the month of December.
As the work progresses, it is anticipated that more in-vivo studies will be performed at the facility and the Company expects to make this a permanent arrangement. Commenting on the relationship, David H. Fater, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vicor said “We are extremely pleased and delighted to commence a working relationship with such a prestigious medical facility. This further strengthens the Company's other alliances such as with Target Health, Molecular Therapeutics and Proteomic Research Solutions as the Company continues to develop its breakthrough technologies to commercialization.”
Vicor Technologies, Inc. is a drug discovery company focused on the isolation and identification of specific naturally occurring biomolecules derived from “state-dependent” physiologies such as hibernation, REM sleep and pregnancy. Vicor has developed a strategy which enables the Company to isolate these naturally occurring, state dependent, non-toxic biomolecules which are directly related to altered physiologies exhibited during these states. These include but are not limited to: blood pressure reduction, loss of appetite and thirst, diminished cancerous cell growth and reproduction, urea recycling and tissue/organ preservation. The Company expects that new treatments for conditions such as stroke (cerebral ischemia), cardiac ischemia, kidney failure, organ transplantation, hypertension, obesity and cancer can be developed from these non-toxic state-dependent molecules. Vicor believes that its drug discovery platform will reduce the cost, time and risk associated with bringing potential products to market.
